Hi,
Recently we tried to update Pdf24 (the 8.7.0 one) for the users in our entreprise. Now users are using Acrobat Reader to read pdf. But after the Pdf24 update, when you open a pdf file, a Windows popup ask you if you want to change your pdf reader per default. We want that this popup don't come, so after researches we found in the Msi a value called "REGISTERREADER=Yes". So we added this value in our deployment command line:
"AUTOUPDATE=No DESKTOPICONS=Yes FAXPRINTER=No REGISTERREADER=No /qn"
But this command line doesn't work and we don't uderstand why.
Some help will be usefull.
Thanks
Hi;
We have the "same" problem with the 8.8.2 version: Once deployed with MSI (GPO), the PDF24 READER becomes the default pdf viewer (we don't want to do that, as this reader doesn't have the same functions we need). We can try to modify the MSI by changing the REGISTERREADER to "no", but will it work...?
Thanks for the speed answer. But we can wait until you fix the bug. I will let you know if the next version work.
We currently try to figure that out because we do not know why that happens.
The REGISTERREADER command line argument prevents settings the default value for the PDF file class in the registry under Software/Classes/.pdf so that the current registered reader is not changed in the system.
The PDF24 reader is added to the OpenWithProgids of the PDF file type to make the PDF24 reader an option for PDF files when the user right-clicks PDF files and chooses open with. Windows then shows a list of apps that support reading pdf files.
This could be the cause that Windows re-asks for the default application, but this is currently only my assumption and we have to investigate further here to to figure that out. Here you would have an option that you could test if you can, which means you could remove settings these registry values from the MSI if you can't wait until we have a solution for that problem.

Hello,
For us the option "REGISTERREADER=No" work very well. So you can use it.
