these are two kinds of EPUB:

• Flow (reflowable): the text is rebuilt into flowing paragraphs. The e-book reader wraps it to fit the screen, and you can change the font size. The look of the original pages is not kept exactly. Pages that cannot be reflowed, such as scanned pages or pages that consist mainly of graphics, are included as a full-page image. This is best for documents that are mostly text, such as books, especially on small screens.
• Fixed (fixed layout): every PDF page becomes a page of the EPUB that looks like the original. The text stays selectable and searchable, but it does not wrap, so on a small screen you zoom instead of changing the font size. This is best for documents where the layout matters, such as magazines, brochures or documents with many images and tables.

The online tool also offers Auto: it checks the pages and chooses Flow or Fixed for the whole book (Fixed if most of the pages cannot be reflowed).
