Hi all,
I need to send PDFs to somebody who is not supposed to store or record ist in anyway. I know how to avoid printing and copying. Is there a chance for this as well?
Or can you limit the "life" of a PDF, so it "fades" after a given time? (I know it sounds a bit like Jams Bond :), but it is about confindetial technical drafts)
Thanks to all in advance
Now this is a very interesting question!
Ultimately, as the previous replies state, "Self Destruct" it is not intrinsic to the PDF format/standard.
There are certain things that could be done, theoretically...
Problem with tat being, such methods could border the realm of malware and may pose more liability than it is worth.
I cannot stop thinking about inspector gadget and the self destruct paper.
The idea being a form of "hypervisor" software to lock, encrypt or wipe the file after a set time...
HOWEVER! I advise against any such methods, as you are entering dangerous and potentially illegal waters.
I deal with highly sensitive / classified documents all the time.
Ultimately, if you don't trust them, don't send them anything.
Even with managed online sessions, other parties can screen capture everything.
If they can view it, they can steal it.
Make sure they are under NDA and trusted.
Have them come to your facility or office, review the documents there.
No cameras, no phones, no touch!
Bottom line, if you suspect they might steal it, it's safe to assume they WILL steal it.
This is the way!
Hey,
for Problems like this we normaly use webbased applications.
Like a Dataexchange and we limit the Documents to only visibility. So for the customers the Documents are only to be opened in a "Reader" of the Webapplication and only inside of the Browser, without any printing or saving abbility.
--> But as Mr. Ziegler stated this is not a PDF-Solution and works for any kind of Datatype. As long as a web-application for "reading only" exists.
No, this is not possible with PDF files. There is no option in the PDF standard which can be used to do what you want.
