Is there a way to make the opacity of a "shape" different from the opacity of the border? I would like to be able insert a graphic "box" or "oval" around text in a document that allows the text to still be very visible.  It seems that the body of the shape and the border can have different colors but not different opacities.  Am I wrong about that?  If I am not wrong, other than freehand line drawing (which I don't want) is there a tool to accomplish this?

Yes, the border of the shape is stroked, so you can set a stroke color and the stroke color can have a different opacity.

Hi Stefan. Thanks for your answer. I tried that and I must be doing it wrong. I set the color of the border to deep red and opacity to 100% , and then set the color of the shape itself to "rffffff" which is essentially white and then set the opacity to 0%, which does make the shape clear like a "window" but the border becomes so light that it almost is invisible. Is there a trick to doing this that I am missing?

I may be duplicating a comment but my last comment doesn't appear as far as I can tell (after refreshing my browser window) so I will try again.
The gist of the issue is that no matter what different colors I use for the border and the actual shape, the opacity selected becomes the same for both. In other words if I set the main shape opacity to "0%" to make the shape like a clear window, the border also disappears. Even I go back to the borer and raise the opacity selection to "100%", then the shape becomes opaque again and obscures the text it is intended to be emphasizing. What am I missing?

If you make set the opacity of the whole shape to 0 % then nothing will be visible. You should change the opacity of the stroke color and/or the fill color. Both colors (stroke, fill) can have it's own opacity value.
