I would like to add my request for the ability to create and edit existing bookmarks within the PDF24 applications. Most of the topics and questions posted with respect to bookmarks are years old, and this would be a very useful tool for document management.
2018-09-03 at 06:53 #5570tomov1945ParticipantHow do I add (create Bookmark) to an existing PDF file?
2018-09-03 at 06:58 #5571Stefan ZieglerKeymasterCurrently you can't do this with PDF24. We have such a feature request on our list, but we currently have no stable solution for that. As soon as we have one, we will add it to our software.
2018-09-03 at 13:40 #5572tomov1945ParticipantThank you very much for the reply. I will be looking forward to the problem.
2021-06-07 at 10:39 #60531mandar1987Participanthello, is this feature available in the latest release ? Please suggest.

2023-12-13 at 12:23 #63401ferizsolnaiParticipantI'll second that. Bookmarks are essential in long PDF documents. Please tell us when we can expect this feature.
2024-01-10 at 22:28 #63415surfboard6977ParticipantYes this would be an excellent feature. Please add! Thank you.
2025-01-29 at 15:44 #64548pdonohue0510ParticipantBased on good reviews, I installed PDF24 as a replacement for an old version of Adobe Acrobat. As mentioned, adding bookmarks to a long pdf document is an essential tool. It appears to be in the works for years - is it actually coming?
2025-05-02 at 07:51 #63905Stefan ZieglerKeymasterPDF bookmarks can be edited and new bookmarks can be added with the following PDF24 tool.
https://tools.pdf24.org/en/edit-pdf-bookmarks
This tool will be provided as an offline version with the upcoming version of PDF24 Creator.
2025-09-07 at 15:32 #64048johnidParticipantI have been happily adding PDFs to an existing PDF file using Adobe Acrobat but I no longer use the paid version.
As a result I have an accumulated PDF file with 47 bookmarks for all the added files but when I add a file using PDF24 Toolbox - Merge PDF with the create bookmarks option I only get two bookmarks. All 47 bookmarks are replaced by a single bookmark and only the new file has its own bookmark. If I want bookmarks then I would need to add 47+1=48 files in PDF24 Toolbox - Merge PDF and next time 49 files then 50 files and so on.
Can we have a fix for this please?
2025-09-08 at 08:05 #64049Stefan ZieglerKeymasterIn this case disable the bookmarks option in the tool because this creates new bookmarks based on the file names with jump targets to the first page of the corresponding file. Just untick the bookmarks option and bookmarks should also be merged.
2025-09-08 at 11:00 #64050johnidParticipantThanks Stefan
Sadly that preserves the bookmrks in the first file but does not create a bookmark for the added file!
John2025-09-09 at 07:34 #64051Stefan ZieglerKeymasterIs our PDF Bookmarks Editor an option here? With it you can edit existing and add new bookmarks very easily.
2025-09-09 at 12:21 #64052johnidParticipantThanks Stefan
Your link goes to -
https://tools.pdf24.org/en/edit-pdf-bookmarks
- but the Download icon -

- goes to PDF24 Creator -
https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator
I have downloaded and re-installed PDF24 Creator and opened a file (with 47 bookmarks and one added file with no bookmark) but it does not seem to have anything to edit existing or add new bookmarks-2025-09-09 at 12:22 #64054Stefan ZieglerKeymasterIn the offline Version, open the Toolbox, merge the files and then continue with the bookmarks editor tool of the toolbox.
2025-09-09 at 16:10 #64055johnidParticipantOK. I have managed this by merging the files with the Toolbox app locally and adding bookmarks with the online bookmark utility https://tools.pdf24.org/en/edit-pdf-bookmarks
The page says you can download an app to do this but it just goes to Creator which can't edit bookmarks.
2026-10-02 at 17:01 #64419briang00ParticipantIn the Online version, I know we can create bookmarks, but how do you edit a bookmark you created or delete it?
2026-10-29 at 18:01 #64696PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
you can change existing bookmarks with the same tool: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/bookmark-pdf
- Open the PDF that contains the bookmarks in the tool. Its bookmarks are shown in the list "Edit bookmarks".
- To change the text of a bookmark, click on its title in the list, edit it and press Enter.
- To delete a bookmark, click on its row to select it and then click the Delete button (trash can) in the toolbar above the list. Sub-bookmarks are deleted with it. Delete all bookmarks removes all of them.
- Save the PDF with the Save PDF button.
Please note that the result is a new PDF that you need to download; the bookmarks in the original file stay as they are.
2026-10-31 at 22:40 #65816PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
as of today, PDF24 can add, rename and delete bookmarks in an existing PDF, both on your computer and online. The earlier replies here ("not possible", "offline version with the upcoming version") are outdated.
On your computer: PDF24 Creator (since version 11.26.0) includes the PDF24 Toolbox with the tool Edit PDF bookmarks. Open the PDF24 Toolbox, choose Edit PDF bookmarks and open your PDF.
- Add: drag a box over a heading on the page and enter the title (the text in the box is suggested). If a bookmark is selected in the list, the new one becomes its sub-bookmark.
- Rename, move or delete: open the menu of the bookmark in the list and choose Change text, Move up / Move down / Move left / Move right or Delete. Delete all bookmarks removes all of them.
- Save with Save PDF.
Online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/bookmark-pdf
- Add: go to the page and click Add bookmark, type the title and press Enter.
- Rename: click the title in the list, edit it and press Enter.
- Delete: select the row and click Delete (trash can) in the toolbar above the list.
- Save with Save PDF and download the new PDF.
Merging a PDF that already has bookmarks (as johnid described): with Create bookmarks ticked, Merge PDF creates one bookmark per file from the file name and drops the bookmarks that were already in the files. Untick the option to keep the existing bookmarks, then add the bookmark for the new file with Edit PDF bookmarks. With the next version, Create bookmarks keeps the existing bookmarks below the bookmark of their file.
