I extracted one page of a document with 106 pages and 13210KB of size. The new document, composed by the sole page I extracted, has a size of 13615KB. How is that possible?
I also tried to do the reverse operation, i.e., removed all pages of the document except the one I wanted to keep and the result is the same.
I suspect that the PDF was built so that each page references and includes all of the data in the PDF, and thus the PDF does not get smaller. But I can only say more exactly when I have seen the PDF. It may help to reduce the size of the PDF beforehand to resolve the references.
Dear Stefan,
Thank you very much for your help. I can't send you the document through here, but you can find similar documents in this link: https://inpi.justica.gov.pt/en-gb/Industrial-Property-Bulletin
You can click in any of the links saying "Boletim da PI (date)". These are industrial property bulletins from the Portuguese patent office.
If your suspicions are correct, how can I overcome that? I know that I can just "print" the page I want into a pdf. But if I do it with pdf24 printer, gives an error. With microsoft print to pdf, for example, it looses quality and looses the hyperlinks the page may contain (which, in this case, are important).
thx!
sorry for the late reply. We have improved this since then: since version 11.18.0, the tools Extract PDF pages and Remove PDF pages find references to other pages and remove them, so that pages you did not choose are no longer saved in the new file. In many cases like yours the result is now much smaller. Links on the page are kept, only links to pages that are not in the new file are removed.
