I create a monthly magazine usually about 42 pages long, in word file size is usually 65mb and as a pdf24 usually 20.4 but since the Dec 2024 update, the last magazine word doc was 47 mb and as a pdf file 52.7. Why did the file grow instead of decreasing as it usually does?

The difference could be the PDF creation mode. In older versions we used the PDF printer to print the Word file to a PDF file. Newer versions use the export function of Word. You can change the mode in the settings area in the "Preferred Methods" page.

    Hi Stefan,
I changed tools/preferred methods/ole export to preferred methods print but it had no effect on the file size. My december magazine in word had a file size 63.3mb, as a pdf24 it was 20.3. My january magazine (post pdf24 update) as a word file: 47mb, as a pdf24:25.4mb. Any ideas why the pdf file is so big?

    Hello,

sorry that this thread remained unanswered for so long.

According to your numbers, switching to printing did help: the January PDF went down from 52.7 MB to 25.4 MB. The remaining difference to December is usually caused by the content, for example more or larger photos in the magazine, since images make up most of the size of such a PDF.

To make the PDF smaller, compress it afterwards with Compress PDF in the PDF24 Toolbox. Lower values for DPI and Image quality give smaller files. This also works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/compress-pdf
