Question: I created a PDF24 file and would like to send it to the recipient, while the file is readable by him - but he is prevented from being able to change the file in any way, copy the text in it and convert the file to a WORD format that allows re-editing of the file's content. I would like to secure all of this by entering a password that I will set and it will prevent (!) the recipient from doing the above. In the window corresponding to this action, there are several boxes that allow marking with a "V". What does entering such a marking in the box mean: does it mean "Permission not granted to do this", or "Yes, such permission is granted"?

The display on the said page does not make this clear at all!

    Hello,

a checked box means allowed. All boxes are checked by default, so to forbid something, remove the check mark.

In the PDF24 Toolbox (Protect PDF):

    1. Enter an Owner password. This is the password for the permissions; keep it, you need it if you want to change the permissions later.
    2. Leave User password empty. The recipient can then open and read the file without a password.
    3. Remove the check marks at Modification of content, Assemble document, Copying of contents and, if you like, Commenting and Fill in forms. Leave Printing checked if the recipient may print.

When you save in the PDF24 Creator with Save as, the same is on the page Security of the PDF format: check Use security settings, enter the Password for encryption (the owner password) and remove the check marks at Edit, Restructure and Copy text and images under Permissions. These settings are not available for PDF/A and PDF/X.

Please note: permissions are rules that PDF programs are expected to follow. Most PDF readers and converters respect them, but they do not encrypt the content against someone who can open the file, and not every program respects them. So they make copying and converting to Word harder, but cannot completely prevent it.
