PDF24 SupportModerator
Hello,
you can change existing bookmarks with the same tool: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/bookmark-pdf
- Open the PDF that contains the bookmarks in the tool. Its bookmarks are shown in the list "Edit bookmarks".
- To change the text of a bookmark, click on its title in the list, edit it and press Enter.
- To delete a bookmark, click on its row to select it and then click the Delete button (trash can) in the toolbar above the list. Sub-bookmarks are deleted with it. Delete all bookmarks removes all of them.
- Save the PDF with the Save PDF button.
Please note that the result is a new PDF that you need to download; the bookmarks in the original file stay as they are.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
yes. There are two ways:
- In the PDF24 Reader, which is part of the PDF24 Creator for Windows: open the PDF, press Ctrl+F, type the amount or the payee and press Enter. With Next and Previous you jump between the results.
- Online without installation: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/search-pdf. Add the PDF, enter the search term and click Search. Every hit is shown with its page and the text around it.
Please type the amount exactly as it is written in the statement (for example with the same decimal separator). If nothing is found at all, the statement is probably a scan without text. Then run it through text recognition first, for example with https://tools.pdf24.org/en/ocr-pdf, and search the result.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
so that we can reproduce this, please send us the file to forum@pdf24.org and tell us:
- Which tool on tools.pdf24.org you used (for example the preview after uploading, "Edit PDF" or a conversion).
- Which reader shows the content (name and version).
- What exactly looks different. A screenshot of both views helps a lot.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
yes, this is possible:
- Add your text with "Add text".
- Click the text so that it is selected.
- In the toolbar, click the paint bucket button "Select fill color" and choose the colour. For text, the fill colour is the text colour.
New text boxes always start in black. If you need several texts in the same colour, select a coloured text and use "Clone element" or Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. The copy keeps colour, font and size, and you only have to change the text.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello Jan,
this is possible since version 11.31.0. When you choose Compress in the PDF24 context menu, the window "PDF compression settings" opens. It now has a field "Save file suffix" (default
_compressed). In older versions the suffix with the dpi and quality values was fixed.- Update PDF24 Creator to the current version: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator
- Select the files, then PDF24 > Compress.
- Clear the field "Save file suffix". If you also tick "Remember settings", the empty field is kept for the next time.
- Click OK and select the target folder.
The compressed files then keep their original names. If a file with the same name already exists in the target folder, PDF24 adds " (1)" to the name and does not overwrite the existing file.
Overwriting the original files directly is not possible when you compress several files at once. If you select the source folder, the files get " (1)". For a single file, the next version will suggest the original file in the save dialog when the suffix is empty, and will ask before replacing it.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
you can switch off both separately.
Autostart: When you sign in to Windows, PDF24 starts its background process (pdf24.exe). This process receives the print jobs of the PDF printer and shows the tray icon. The autostart entry is not required. To disable it:
- Open the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc).
- Open the page "Startup apps" (Windows 10: tab "Startup").
- Right-click the "PDF24" entry and select "Disable".
Please do not delete the entry from the registry instead, because every update creates it again. Details are in the manual: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#132-how-to-stopremove-the-pdf24-autostart-entry
PDF printer: Since version 11.31.0, the PDF printer is an optional component of the installer. Download the current version from https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator, run the installer and deselect "PDF Printer" (and "Fax Printer", if it is selected) in the list of components. The other tools of PDF24 Creator keep working without the printer.
2026-10-29 at 18:01 in reply to: AutoSaveFileCmd: open the generated PDF automatically after saving #64691PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you for the detailed description (we have answered the same question in the German forum as well). PDF24 runs the command as
cmd.exe /C "<your command>"in a hidden window, with the folder of the saved file as working directory. A program that is started directly from this hidden cmd.exe (likeAcrobat.exe "${file}") can take over the hidden state, so Acrobat may start without a visible window. An invisible Acrobat that keeps running would also receive the next files you open, which could explain why thestartvariant showed nothing either. Please try this:
- Close Acrobat and check in the Task Manager that no Acrobat.exe process is left. End remaining ones.
- Set the command without the extra cmd.exe (PDF24 already runs it through cmd.exe /C):
"AutoSaveFileCmd"="start \"\" \"${file}\""startopens the file with the default PDF application of the user and with a normal window. If that still does not work, you can try
"AutoSaveFileCmd"="explorer.exe \"${file}\"", which also opens the file with the default application. The placeholders for the command are described in the manual: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#62-control-codes-in-printed-documents
Please let us know whether this works.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
this message only says that the PDF could not be created when saving. It does not include the reason, so unfortunately we cannot tell from it what went wrong.
Since your post we have fixed several problems in the form editor, among them some with copied fields. Please try again: online at https://tools.pdf24.org/en/make-pdf-fillable (the online tool now also shows the reason if saving fails), in the PDF24 Creator the fixes will come with the next version.
If the error still occurs, please tell us whether you use the online tool or the PDF24 Creator and which message appears. So that we can reproduce this, please send us a file where it happens to forum@pdf24.org
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
no, this cannot be switched off. When saving automatically, PDF24 always appends the extension of the output format of the profile (for PDF
.pdf) to the file name. So enter the name without extension;dummy.pdfwould becomedummy.pdf.pdf.If you need the file under a different name afterwards, you can have a command run after saving: in the PDF24 Settings of the printer under Auto Save, Execute the following command after saving, in the registry the value
AutoSaveFileCmdin the same key asAutoSaveFilename. The placeholder$filecontains the full path of the saved file. What do you need the file without extension for? If there is another way to reach your goal, we are happy to help.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
we do not know this problem yet and could not reproduce it so far. To narrow it down, please tell us:
- your Windows version (e.g. Windows 11 24H2),
- how long it takes to select the PDF24 printer in the AutoCAD plot dialog, and whether the printing itself is slow too,
- whether it also happens in a new, empty drawing,
- whether the PDF24 printer is your Windows default printer.
Please also try it with the current version of PDF24 Creator.
With version 11.30.1 your PDF24 printer is the classic printer with the PDF24 PostScript driver. On Windows 11 24H2 and later you can add a second, driverless PDF24 printer for comparison: PDF24 Settings > PDF Printer > Install a PDF printer, type Windows Protected Print. Please note that the driverless printer only offers standard paper sizes and no custom sizes. If AutoCAD is fast with it, we know that it is related to the driver.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
the profile is there, it is just not shown as a list. Tools > Output profiles opens the same window as the Save as dialog. At the bottom left is the selection Profiles:. Open it: below the built-in profiles and a separator line (
--------------) you will find your own profiles. When you select one of your own profiles, the buttons Save and Remove appear next to New:
- To edit it: select the profile, change the settings and click Save next to the selection.
- To delete it: select the profile and click Remove.
The page Output profiles in the PDF24 Settings only contains the Selection mode, i.e. how the profiles are shown in the window Select an output profile. The profiles themselves are not listed there.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
copying fields is still possible, with the keyboard:
- Click the field so that it is selected.
- Press Ctrl+C.
- Press Ctrl+V. The copy is inserted a little offset from the original and gets a name of its own. Each further Ctrl+V inserts another copy.
While the cursor is in one of the input boxes of the field properties, Ctrl+V pastes text there instead of a field.
At the time of your post, copying had some bugs: copies could lie on top of each other or disappear when saving. This is fixed in the online tool https://tools.pdf24.org/en/make-pdf-fillable. In the PDF24 Creator (Toolbox, Create fillable PDF form), the fix will come with the next version.
If you open the tool via an old bookmark: the address create-fillable-pdf-form now opens our new tool for designing a form from scratch. To add fields to an existing PDF, please use Make PDF fillable (link above).
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you for the report. We have rebuilt the tool search on tools.pdf24.org since then. Among other things, it now also finds tools by their English names on all language versions of the site, where before it often only knew the words of the page language. If you type "Flatten" in the search box now, "Flatten PDF" is the first result.
You can also open the tool directly: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/flatten-pdf
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
a checked box means allowed. All boxes are checked by default, so to forbid something, remove the check mark.
In the PDF24 Toolbox (Protect PDF):
- Enter an Owner password. This is the password for the permissions; keep it, you need it if you want to change the permissions later.
- Leave User password empty. The recipient can then open and read the file without a password.
- Remove the check marks at Modification of content, Assemble document, Copying of contents and, if you like, Commenting and Fill in forms. Leave Printing checked if the recipient may print.
When you save in the PDF24 Creator with Save as, the same is on the page Security of the PDF format: check Use security settings, enter the Password for encryption (the owner password) and remove the check marks at Edit, Restructure and Copy text and images under Permissions. These settings are not available for PDF/A and PDF/X.
Please note: permissions are rules that PDF programs are expected to follow. Most PDF readers and converters respect them, but they do not encrypt the content against someone who can open the file, and not every program respects them. So they make copying and converting to Word harder, but cannot completely prevent it.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
in "Edit PDF" of the PDF24 Toolbox:
- Font size: click the text to select it and change the value in the "Font size" field in the toolbar. You can also drag a corner of the text to make it larger or smaller.
- Word wrap: text added with "Add text" does not wrap automatically. Press Enter where a new line should start.
Thank you for the suggestion of a text box with automatic word wrap, we will add it to our list.
If you meant a different tool, please let us know which one.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHallo,
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
the problem is the order in your command line. After
-profilethe DocTool expects the profile name. In-profile -compress ""default/good"",-compressis taken as the profile name anddefault/goodas one of the files to join. There is no profile with the name-compress, so the DocTool opens the window for selecting a profile and waits there. Because Excel starts the DocTool withvbHide, you may not see this window. Please put
""default/good""directly after-profileagain and remove-compress, as in the line you commented out above it.-joinand-compresscannot be combined in one call. If both are given, the DocTool only compresses. To compress the joined file, call the DocTool a second time with-compress,-outputFileand the joined file, after the join has finished. Please note thatShellin VBA does not wait for the DocTool to finish. The options are described in the manual:
- Join: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#1115-join-input-files-and-create-an-output-pdf-file
- Compress: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#11118-compress-pdf-files
Since version 11.31.0 there is also the option
-silent. The DocTool then shows no windows, and errors such as an unknown profile or a missing file end the DocTool with an exit code instead of waiting for input: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#11119-exit-codes. Version 11.31.1 is also available for 32-bit Windows.PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you for the detailed description. Some background: files that PDF24 cannot convert itself are printed to the PDF24 printer with the program associated with the file type. For this, PDF24 temporarily makes the PDF24 printer the default printer and switches back to the previous default printer when the conversion is finished. On this PC, switching back apparently does not work.
Please turn "Let Windows manage my default printer" off again. According to Microsoft, with this option on Windows makes the most recently used printer the default printer, and after a conversion that is the PDF24 printer.
So that we can look into it, please tell us:
- which version of PDF24 Creator is installed (the current version is 11.31.1),
- which file type you convert and how (e.g. right-click on the file > PDF24 > Convert to PDF, in the PDF24 Creator window or in the PDF24 Toolbox),
- whether it also happens with a PDF or image file,
- whether an error message appears during the conversion.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
if you created the form with PDF24 (in the PDF24 Toolbox "Create fillable PDF form", online "Make PDF fillable": https://tools.pdf24.org/en/make-pdf-fillable), click one of the radio buttons. The properties panel then shows:
- Group name: this is the field name you use in JavaScript. All radio buttons with the same group name form one group, and only one of them can be selected.
- Value: the value of this one button. The group gets the value of the selected button. If no button is selected, the value is
Off.
For a score, enter numbers as the Value of the buttons, e.g. 1, 2, 3. To show a score, the text field for the result needs a script in its "Calculate Action". A simple calculation without a script (e.g. the sum of selected fields) is not available yet. Thank you for the suggestion, we will add it to our list.
The button "Show or hide form fields" opens a list of all fields on the page with their names.
Please note: scripts are only run by PDF programs that support JavaScript and have it switched on, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. Many browsers and apps ignore them.
