    Hello,

the entries of this menu cannot be changed individually. Email and Fax disappear from it if you switch these functions off: in the PDF24 settings, section "Features", uncheck "Fax" and "Email". Note that this switches Fax and Email off in all PDF24 apps, not only in the Reader. Administrators can set the same with the registry values NoFax and NoMail: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#41-common-registry-settings

Signing: this function is in the works for PDF24 Reader and will be released with one of the upcoming versions. Until then you can sign a PDF with the tool "Sign PDF" in the PDF24 Toolbox, which you can also open from this menu with "Toolbox". This also works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/sign-pdf

    Hello,

the warning "ignoring zlib error: incorrect data check" means that compressed data in these PDF files has a wrong checksum. Many PDF readers tolerate this, but it can break the processing during OCR.

Does this still happen with the current version of PDF24 Creator? If yes, please send us the files again (also the ones you sent by e-mail back then), so that we can reproduce this, with this button:

    Hello,

you can do this in two steps:

    1. Convert the image to a PDF with the tool "Images to PDF" in the PDF24 Toolbox.
    2. Combine the image PDF and the PDF of your Word document with the tool "Merge PDF". Put the image page first.

Merging does not change the pages of your Word document, so their text stays searchable with Ctrl+F. Only the cover page is an image without text.

This also works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/images-to-pdf and https://tools.pdf24.org/en/merge-pdf

If the layout of the document gets broken when you save it as PDF in Word, you can also try the conversion with PDF24: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/word-to-pdf

    Hello,

PDF24 shows your own image instead of the banner if one of these files is in the installation folder of PDF24 (usually C:\Program Files\PDF24, administrator rights are needed to copy it there): logo.png, logo.jpg, logo.bmp, banner.png, banner.jpg or banner.bmp.

The default banner has 200 x 330 pixels (width x height), so an image with this size fits best. The registry value LogoClickUrl sets the web page that opens when someone clicks the banner: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#41-common-registry-settings

Currently an update with the EXE installer removes the file, so it has to be copied again after an update. With the next version the file will be kept on updates.

Thank you for the hint about the manual, we will add a description there.

    Hello,

PDF24 has no command line option to attach any file to an existing PDF yet. Thank you for the suggestion, we will add it to our list.

If your XML file is an e-invoice (ZUGFeRD/Factur-X or XRechnung in CII format) and you want a ZUGFeRD PDF, this works on the command line since version 11.23.0:

    pdf24-Toolbox.exe -createInvoice "C:\Invoices\4711.xml" "C:\Invoices\4711-zugferd.pdf" -outputType zugferd:en16931 -pdfFile "C:\Invoices\4711.pdf"

The PDF is converted to PDF/A-3 and the XML invoice is embedded. All options are described here: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#914-create-invoices

    Hello,

the tool Protect PDF sets two passwords: the User password to open the PDF and the Owner password for the permissions. In older versions, if only the User password was entered, a random owner password was set that nobody knew. That is why your open password is not accepted as permissions password.

Since version 11.31.0 the open password is also used as owner password if you leave Owner password empty. So:

    1. Install the current version of PDF24 Creator: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator
    2. Protect your original, unprotected file again with Protect PDF.
    3. If you want a separate permissions password, enter it in the field Owner password (if you only see the password field, click the cog icon next to it). With the checkboxes you choose what is allowed without this password, e.g. Printing or Modification of content.

With this password you can then change the permissions in your PDF program.

    This also works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/protect-pdf

    Hello,

sorry for the late reply. We do not know this problem yet. Please first try the current version of PDF24 Creator: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator

If text and dimensions are still missing:

    • On Windows 11 24H2 and later you can add a second, driverless PDF24 printer for comparison: PDF24 Settings > PDF Printer > Install a PDF printer, type Windows Protected Print. Please tell us whether the text is missing there as well. More about the two printer types: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#63-classic-and-driverless-pdf-printers
    • Please also tell us your PDF24 version and which fonts are used for the text and dimensions in Revit.

So that we can reproduce this, please send us a file where it happens (the PDF created with PDF24 and, if possible, a small Revit project) with this button:

    Hello,

this has changed since your post. PDF to Excel now uses a new converter developed by PDF24 that creates one worksheet per table: a table that continues over several pages ends up in a single worksheet, and the repeated header row is left out. This is the default online (https://tools.pdf24.org/en/pdf-to-excel) and in PDF24 Creator since version 11.31.0. Only with the option "One sheet per page" does each page get a worksheet of its own.

If the pages contain different tables (with different columns), each table still gets its own worksheet. An option to put everything on a single worksheet does not exist yet. Thank you for the suggestion, we will add it to our list.

    Hello,

thank you for the details. The message comes from the PDF24 Reader. From the description alone we cannot see why folders are lost from the path. If it still happens with the current version of PDF24, so that we can reproduce this, please send us a file where it happens with this button:

The link target does not have to be reachable for us, the PDF with the link is enough. Please also tell us the full path the link should open.

    Hello,

yes, this works with the PDF24 Creator (Windows):

    1. Open the PDF24 Creator (in the PDF24 Toolbox via the menu "Open PDF24 Creator").
    2. Open the PDF file with File > Open....
    3. Click File > Save as... and choose the format PDF.
    4. Set PDF standard to PDF 1.6 and save the file.

The same option is in the Save as... dialog of the PDF24 Assistant, which opens when you print a document on the PDF24 printer.

Please note that the file is written anew during this conversion, not only its version number is changed. Please check the result, especially for files with forms or other interactive content.

    Hello,

since version 11.31.0 the PDF24 Reader has a Comments panel in the sidebar. It lists all comments of the document, including comments made in Adobe Acrobat and their replies. A click on a comment jumps to its location on the page, and hovering over a comment shows its text. Please update to the current version: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator

If the comments of your file are still not readable there, please let us know. So that we can reproduce this, please send us a file where it happens with this button:

    Hello,

thank you for the report and the kind words. Saving PDF files as images has been changed several times since then, for example the handling of already existing target files. Please check whether this still happens with the current version: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator

If you still get duplicate JPGs or folders with page numbers, please tell us which function you use (for example "Save as" in the PDF24 Creator with "Page 1 to 1"). So that we can reproduce this, please send us a few files where it happens with this button:

Converting PDF to JPG also works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/pdf-to-jpg

PDF24 for Linux and Mac is in the works and will be released once it is finished. Until then you can use the online tools, which run in any browser: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/

    Hello,

sorry for the late reply. Please first check the profile used when saving: the quality profiles reduce the resolution of images in the PDF (Good quality to 300 dpi, Medium quality to 150 dpi, Low quality to 96 dpi) and compress them more. "Best quality" keeps images at their original resolution. Choose it in the PDF24 Assistant when saving, or, if the printer saves automatically, under Settings > PDF Printer > Auto Save > Profile.

If the background is still light or pixelated with "Best quality", we would like to look at it. So that we can reproduce this, please send us a file where it happens with this button:

    Hello,

the DocTool has most likely already finished at that point. pdf24-DocTool.exe is a Windows program with a graphical interface, not a console program. When you start such a program at an interactive command prompt, cmd does not wait for it and prints the prompt right away; the output of the DocTool then appears below the prompt. Simply press Enter and the prompt shows up again.

In a batch script, cmd waits until the DocTool has finished before it runs the next line. You can also make the waiting explicit with start /wait, as recommended in the manual:

    start "" /wait pdf24-DocTool.exe -compress -noProgress -dpi 120 -imageQuality 60 -outputFile filename.pdf inputfilename.pdf

Since version 11.31.0 there is also the flag -silent for unattended scripts: no dialogs are shown, errors are written to stderr and returned as exit code. Details: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#11119-exit-codes

The options of the compress command are described here: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#11118-compress-pdf-files

    Compressing also works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/compress-pdf

    Hello,

yes, this has changed: since version 11.8.0, PDF24 no longer prints Word, Excel and PowerPoint files when converting them, but lets Office export the PDF itself. Hyperlinks are kept this way. To do this, drag the Office file into PDF24 Creator or use "Convert to PDF" in the PDF24 Toolbox. Printing from Word to the PDF24 printer still loses the links, because the printer interface does not pass them on.

Word files can also be converted online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/word-to-pdf

When you delete or rearrange pages in PDF24 Creator, web links on the pages are kept. If your PDF was created by printing, it has no links to begin with. If links disappear in a PDF that has them, please send us such a file with this button:

Form fields: with the next version, forms stay fillable when you delete or rearrange pages in PDF24 Creator. Fields are only renamed if fields with the same name come from different files.

    Hello,

by default, the measuring tool of PDF24 Reader shows lengths both in metric units and in inches. Since version 11.21.0 you can choose which:

    1. In PDF24 Reader, open the "More" menu and click "Settings".
    2. On the Reader page, uncheck "Display SI units-based value in the measuring tool" and leave "Display inch-based value in the measuring tool" checked.

The measuring tool then shows inches only.

The rulers at the edge of the page can also use inches (since version 11.31.0): "More" menu > "Show ruler" > "Inch (in)".

    Hello,

thank you for the detailed description. We have fixed a similar problem for the next version: after deleting pages via the context menu of a page, the remaining pages were often not shown until the window was resized. We will check whether this also covers your case (deleting more pages than are visible, scroll bar inactive) and fix it if needed.

Until then, as you wrote, changing the preview size with Ctrl + mouse wheel or resizing the window shows the remaining pages again.

Deleting pages also works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/remove-pdf-pages

    Hello,

sorry for the late reply. Until now, every update reset the settings of the PDF24 printer and the fax printer, for example what the printer does after printing and automatic saving with folder, file name and profile. The fix will come with the next version: an update with the EXE setup (this is also what the update via the tray icon uses) keeps these settings.

Until then, please check the printer settings again after an update and set them up again if needed.

    Hello,

sorry for the late reply. Since version 11.19.0, File Explorer shows a preview of the first page instead of the PDF icon when PDF24 is the default app for PDF files. In the MSI package a registry entry needed for these previews was missing until version 11.20.0. Please update PDF24 to the current version first: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator

If the icons are still blank after that, please send us a screenshot of the Explorer window and tell us whether you installed PDF24 with the EXE or the MSI setup. So that we can reproduce this, please send us the screenshot with this button:

    Hello,

sorry for the late reply. The online tool Annotate PDF now has text markup tools: Highlight, Underline, Strikethrough and Squiggly underline. With Highlight only the text itself is marked, like in Adobe Reader or Edge: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/annotate-pdf

On the desktop, PDF24 Reader can do this as well: select the text and choose Highlight in the small toolbar that appears after the selection.

The Annotate PDF tool of the PDF24 Toolbox does not have text highlighting yet. Thank you for the suggestion, we will add it to our list.

    Hello,

the error in your log is a stack overflow in the Java part of PDF24 while merging. Since version 11.19.0, PDF24 starts Java with a much larger stack, which should avoid this error with such files. Please update to the current version: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator

    Hello,

the online tool PDF to PDF/A creates PDF/A-2b, the level cannot be chosen there at the moment: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/pdf-to-pdfa

PDF/A-3 is currently only available in PDF24 Creator for Windows (PDF24 Toolbox, tool Convert from PDF). PDF24 for Linux and Mac is in the works and will be released once it is finished.

A selectable PDF/A level in the online tool is on our to-do list.

    Hello,

you are right: the watermark is added as a separate layer on top of the page. The images below stay unchanged in the file and can be extracted.

To make the watermark part of the image, you can combine two tools:

    1. Add the watermark: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/add-watermark
    2. Rasterize the result: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/rasterize-pdf

Rasterizing turns every page into a single image in a new PDF, so the watermark and the picture below become one image and the original pictures can no longer be extracted separately. In PDF24 Toolbox, the second step is the tool Convert from PDF with the format Secure PDF.

This makes it harder to get the picture without the watermark, but it is no guarantee: the page image itself can still be edited with an image editor.

In addition, Protect PDF lets you set a password and turn off permissions such as copying of contents: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/protect-pdf. Note that such permissions are only respected by programs that observe them.

    Hello,

the MSI package always installs PDF24 for the whole computer (printer, service) and therefore needs administrator rights. With /qb Windows can still show the UAC prompt, with /qn there is no user interface at all, so no prompt can appear and the installation cannot get the rights it needs.

For a silent installation with /qn, start msiexec with administrator rights, e.g. from a command prompt opened with "Run as administrator" or from your software deployment tool.

All current MSI properties and /q options are described in the manual: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#3-msi-installer

yes, in PDF24 Reader since version 11.31.0: a click with the middle mouse button (mouse wheel) on the page starts the auto-scroll known from web browsers. Move the mouse pointer up or down to scroll, another click with the middle mouse button ends it. Please update PDF24 to the current version.

    Hello,

yes, this is possible since version 11.21.0. Click Settings at the bottom of the PDF24 Assistant, go to the page Assistant and tick Open directory after saving. After saving, the Assistant then opens the folder and selects the saved file.

If you don't see the option, please update to the current version first: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator
