    Hello,

yes, with PDF24 Creator you can do this with an overlay PDF that contains only your logo in the top right corner:

    1. Create a one-page PDF with your logo in the top right corner and nothing else, in the same page size as your documents (e.g. A4). For example, make it in Word and print it to the PDF24 printer.
    2. Open PDF24 Settings > Output profiles and create a new profile with the format PDF. On the page "Overlay", enable "Use overlay" and choose your logo PDF. "Repeat last overlay page" is on by default, so the logo is put on every page.
    3. In PDF24 Settings > PDF Printer, choose "Automatically save documents after printed". Under "Auto Save", set the output directory and select your new profile under "Profile".

Every document you then print from Word, Excel or a PDF viewer to the PDF24 printer is saved as PDF with your logo. In the current version, an overlay with a different page size is not fitted to the page, this fix will come with the next version.

For existing PDFs you can also use the tool "PDF Overlay" in the PDF24 Toolbox with the same logo PDF. This also works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/overlay-pdf

With the next version, the tool "Add watermark" in the PDF24 Toolbox can also add an image (e.g. your logo) at a chosen position such as top right.

    Hello,

pdf24-DocTool.exe -convertTo cannot create Word, Excel or PowerPoint files. The PDF24 Toolbox can, and it can run its tool Convert from PDF from the command line without any window, with a job file (-processJob):

    1. Create a job file, e.g. C:\Data\job.json, with one entry per PDF in fileInfos (write the backslashes in paths twice, otherwise the file is not valid). outputFileType can be docx, xlsx or pptx:
    { "action": "convertPdfTo", "outputFileType": "xlsx", "fileInfos": [ { "file": "C:\\Data\\test.pdf", "name": "test.pdf" } ] }
    1. Run the job:
    "C:\Program Files\PDF24\pdf24-Toolbox.exe" -processJob C:\Data\job.json C:\Data\result.json
    1. In result.json you find the created file under outputFiles: file is its path in the temp folder %TEMP%\PDF24, name is the intended file name (e.g. test.xlsx). Copy the file from there to your target folder.

    Description of -processJob: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#912-process-a-job

    Hello,

the PDF itself is fine: the PDF24 printer stored your pages in A6. When you print this PDF, the paper size is not taken from PDF24 but from the print dialog of the program you print with. If the paper size of your printer is still set to A4 there, the printer treats the A6 sheet as A4.

In PDF24 Reader (current version) please check this in the print dialog:

    1. "Paper size": choose A6 (or "Automatic by page size"). A6 is only listed if your printer offers it. If you chose A4 for this printer before, the dialog keeps that choice, so please change it once.
    2. "Scaling": choose "Actual size", so that the page is not enlarged or reduced.

If you print with another program, select A6 as paper size in its print dialog or in the printer properties as well.

    Hello,

sorry for the late reply. The tool "Edit PDF" of the PDF24 Toolbox saves text with the font selected in the font list (default: Calibri). While you type, Windows shows the Chinese characters with a substitute font, but Calibri contains no Chinese characters, so they are missing in the saved PDF.

If a font with Traditional Chinese characters in TTF format is installed on your PC, please select it in the font list before you type the text. The Chinese fonts that usually come with Windows (e.g. Microsoft JhengHei) are TTC files and are not offered in the font list yet.

That characters missing in the selected font should come from a suitable system font is on our to-do list.

    Hello,

thank you for sharing the solution. For other readers: -profile expects the ID of the profile, not only its name. User profiles have the ID user/<name>, the default profiles default/<name> (e.g. default/good). If PDF24 does not find the ID, it opens the profile selection. With the additional switch -silent, the DocTool reports an error instead of asking.

    Hello,

sorry for the late reply, and thank you for the details.

    • The font list of "Edit PDF" in the PDF24 Toolbox only offers fonts in TTF format. Most Chinese fonts that come with Windows (e.g. Microsoft YaHei, SimSun, Microsoft JhengHei) are TTC files and are not offered yet. "SimSun-ExtB" in the list contains only rare additional characters, not the common ones.
    • While you type, Windows shows the Chinese characters with a substitute font, but the saved PDF uses only the selected font. Characters that this font does not contain are missing.
    • That such characters should come from a suitable system font, or at least a note should be shown, is on our to-do list. With the next version, the Toolbox already shows a note when you choose a font whose license does not allow embedding it in PDF files; until now another font was used silently.
    • Saving has been reworked since version 11.25.0 and now runs with progress messages. If saving still hangs with the current version, please send us a file where it happens with this button:

    Hello,

there is no setting in PDF24 for this. PDF24 uses the temporary folder that Windows provides for your user account (set by the Windows environment variables TMP and TEMP) and creates the subfolder PDF24 in it. If you set TMP and TEMP of your user account to a folder on the other drive, PDF24 uses that folder as well. Please note that all other programs then use this folder too, and sign out and in again so that the PDF24 programs pick up the change.

A PDF24 setting for its own temporary folder is on our to-do list.

    Hello,

-verb convertPdfTo only opens the tool "Convert from PDF" in the Toolbox window with the file loaded; -outputType is not used there. For a conversion without a window, use the DocTool with a profile and set the PDF standard (since version 11.31.0):

    "C:\Program Files\PDF24\pdf24-DocTool.exe" -applyProfile -profile default/best -profileParam pdf-standard a-1 -silent -outputFile "C:\out\prueba.pdf" "C:\prueba.pdf"

Possible values for pdf-standard include a-1, a-2, a-3, a-4 and a-4f. Alternatively, create a profile of your own with the PDF standard "PDF/A-1" in the PDF24 settings under "Output profiles" and use it with -profile user/<name>. Details: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#1114-apply-a-profile-to-input-files

    Hello,

sorry for the late reply. This message means that one of the PDF files contains a damaged spot (at the position given as "offset") that the merge tool could not read. Since you got it with both upload ways, it is caused by the file itself, not by the upload.

If it still happens, please first open the file that causes the error in Repair PDF and then merge the repaired file:

    Hello,

a short update on signing: on Sign PDF the signature dialog no longer opens by itself. The PDF is shown first, and you add a signature when you want with the button Insert signature in the toolbar, or by right-clicking the page and choosing Sign here (the signature is then placed at that spot). This is online since 30.10.2026: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/sign-pdf

The PDF24 Toolbox gets this with its next version.

in reply to: Error code 5 when saving a PDF in PDF24 Creator #65508

    Hello,

sorry for the late reply. Error code 5 ("Access is denied") comes from Windows: PDF24 creates the PDF in a temporary folder first and then copies it to the place you chose, and Windows refused to write the file there. The firewall has nothing to do with this, it only controls network access.

In your screenshot the target is in your Documents folder on OneDrive (...\OneDrive\Documents\2024_03_29\). Please try this:

    1. As a test, save the PDF to a folder outside OneDrive and outside Documents, for example a new folder C:\PDF. If that works, the target folder is protected.
    2. One possible cause is the ransomware protection of Windows Security ("Controlled folder access"). It blocks programs that are not allowed from writing to protected folders such as Documents. If it is switched on, allow the PDF24 programs there.
    3. If a file with the same name already exists in the target folder, make sure it is not read-only and not open in another program.

If saving fails in every folder, please let us know which PDF24 version you use.

    Hello,

sorry for the late reply. The setting Fixed save directory (settings, page Assistant) only applies to the PDF24 Assistant, the window that opens after printing to the PDF24 printer. PDF24 Reader and PDF24 Creator do not use it:

    • PDF24 Reader: Save as starts in the folder of the opened file. A setting for a fixed or the last used folder does not exist yet; it is on our to-do list.
    • PDF24 Creator: saving starts in the folder of the file. For files from a temporary folder, such as e-mail attachments, Windows chooses the start folder. On the settings page Creator you can switch on Don't use the file's source folder when saving (use the last used folder instead), then the dialog does not start in the file's folder.

    Hello,

this is how it is meant to work. Secure PDF does not set a password or permissions. It renders every page as an image and builds a new PDF from these images. The result can no longer be searched, and text cannot be selected, copied or edited, and covered or hidden content is not carried over. That is also why the file is bigger than the original. With DPI and Image quality you can make it smaller.

For a password and permissions, use the Toolbox tool Protect PDF: there you set a User password (to open the file) and/or an Owner password and choose under Change permissions what is allowed (printing, copying of contents, modification, ...). Online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/protect-pdf

You can also combine both: first Secure PDF, then Protect PDF on the result. The rasterizing alone is also available online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/rasterize-pdf

    Hello,

the Toolbox tool Edit PDF now saves the edits in a different way (since version 11.25.0). With this, text that is underlined in the editor should stay underlined in the saved PDF. Please update PDF24 Creator to the current version: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator

If it still happens, please tell us here:

    • your PDF24 version and Windows version,
    • which banking application you print from,
    • whether printing from another program (e.g. Notepad) works right after a failed print from the banking application,
    • whether pdf24-Creator.exe is still running in the Task Manager after the window has closed.

    Hello,

yes. In PDF24 Toolbox, open Convert from PDF, add the PDF and choose the format Secure PDF. Every page is rendered as an image and put into a new PDF, so the result contains only images, like a scanned document: the text can no longer be selected or copied. With DPI, Image quality and Color (RGB or Gray) you control the quality and the file size.

    The same works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/rasterize-pdf

PDF24 does not add typical scanner effects such as a slightly tilted page or noise; the pages look exactly like the original.

    Hello,

the online tools have no command line, but PDF24 Creator for Windows can do this on your computer. Its PDF24 Toolbox runs the tool Convert from PDF with a job file (-processJob):

    1. Create a job file, e.g. C:\Data\job.json, with one entry per PDF in fileInfos (write the backslashes in paths twice, otherwise the file is not valid):
    { "action": "convertPdfTo", "outputFileType": "html", "conversionMode": "complete", "fileInfos": [ { "file": "C:\\PDFs\\a.pdf", "name": "a.pdf" }, { "file": "C:\\PDFs\\b.pdf", "name": "b.pdf" } ] }

conversionMode can be complete (layout with images and fonts) or textOnly.

    1. Run the job:
    "C:\Program Files\PDF24\pdf24-Toolbox.exe" -processJob C:\Data\job.json C:\Data\result.json
    1. In result.json you find each HTML file under outputFiles (file = path in the temp folder %TEMP%\PDF24, name = file name, e.g. a.html). Copy these files into your new folder under that name.

For 10,000 files, a script of your own has to write the job file and copy the results; you can also split the files into several jobs. Description of -processJob: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#912-process-a-job

Without the command line, the tool Convert from PDF in the PDF24 Toolbox also converts several files at once (format HTML). Single files also online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/pdf-to-html

    Hallo,

    1. Legen Sie eine Auftragsdatei an, z. B. C:\Users\user.name\Desktop\BAB\job.json (Backslashes in Pfaden doppelt schreiben):
    { "action": "sortPdfPages", "pagesInfos": [
      { "fileInfo": { "file": "C:\\Users\\user.name\\Desktop\\BAB\\BABs.pdf", "name": "1000.pdf" }, "pages": [9, 29, 30] },
      { "fileInfo": { "file": "C:\\Users\\user.name\\Desktop\\BAB\\BABs.pdf", "name": "1200-1300.pdf" }, "pages": [10, 31, 32, 11, 33, 34] },
      { "fileInfo": { "file": "C:\\Users\\user.name\\Desktop\\BAB\\BABs.pdf", "name": "1600.pdf" }, "pages": [12, 35, 36] }
    ] }

    "C:\Program Files\PDF24\pdf24-Toolbox.exe" -processJob "C:\Users\user.name\Desktop\BAB\job.json" "C:\Users\user.name\Desktop\BAB\result.json"
    1. In result.json steht unter outputFiles für jede neue PDF der Pfad im Temp-Ordner %TEMP%\PDF24 (file) und der vorgesehene Name (name, z. B. 1000.pdf). Von dort kopieren Sie die Dateien in Ihren Ordner.

    Hello,

the two ways create the PDF differently:

    • From the context menu of a Word file, PDF24 lets Word itself export the document as PDF (method "OLE Export"). Word decides how much the images are reduced, and the quality settings of PDF24 are not used. That is why the file is much smaller and the images are less sharp.
    • When you print from Word to the PDF24 printer, the pages go through the printer and PDF24 creates the PDF with its own quality settings. With maximum quality the images stay larger.

If the context menu should also go through printing, open the PDF24 Settings (e.g. in the PDF24 Toolbox with "Open Settings"), go to Preferred Methods and set Convert Word to PDF to "OLE Print". Word then prints the document to the PDF24 printer instead of exporting it.

Word files can also be converted online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/word-to-pdf

    Hello,

PDF to Word has been reworked since this post (in PDF24 Creator since version 11.31.0, and online). In the PDF24 Toolbox, tool "Convert PDF to ..." with the format "Word (.docx)", the setting "Mode" decides how the text is placed:

    • Auto (default): simple text pages become flowing text, pages with a lot of graphics become text frames at their original position.
    • Fixed: all pages as text frames at their original position, closest to the look of the PDF. Word can show an anchor symbol at such frames, but the text in them can be edited.
    • Flow: all pages as flowing paragraphs without text frames, the easiest to edit.

If a page contains no real text, for example a scanned page, it always becomes a picture in Word. In this case run OCR on the PDF first (tool "PDF OCR") and then convert it.

Both also work online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/pdf-to-word and https://tools.pdf24.org/en/ocr-pdf

    Hello,

yes, the PDF24 Reader can do this directly. Open the PDF in the PDF24 Reader and click Print. Under Pages choose Odd pages or Even pages and print.

For manual double-sided printing, first print the odd pages, put the stack back into the printer and then print the even pages. If the order of the sheets does not fit, the option Reverse pages under Copies & page order helps.

    Hello,

sorry for the late reply. A print job cannot be saved with a command line call, but you don't need one: let the PDF24 printer save every print job automatically. Then no dialog appears and your application only has to print.

    1. Open the PDF24 settings and go to PDF Printer. Select the PDF24 printer, or add a separate one for your application with Install a PDF printer.
    2. Under PDF Printer Tool choose Automatically save documents after printed.
    3. Under Auto Save set the Output Directory and the Filename. In the file name you can use $fileName (the name of the print job) and date/time values such as %Y-%m-%d. The default is %Y-%m-%d %H-%M-%S $fileName.

If you want to process the PDF further, use Execute the following command after saving for this printer.

With version 11.31.0 or newer, your application can also set the file name and folder for each document with control codes. Enable Recognize control codes in the printed document for the printer and print a text like @@fn:Form-123@@ and @@df:C:\Forms\@@ on the form. PDF24 reads the codes, removes them from the PDF and saves it under this name. This needs the text to be printed as real text, not as graphics.

The PDF printers and control codes are described in the manual:

    Hello,

    sorry for the late reply.

PDF/A is not a separate command but a PDF standard for long-term archiving (ISO 19005). Many authorities and archives require it. In PDF24 you choose it when saving:

    1. Print the document on the PDF24 printer or open it in the PDF24 Creator.
    2. Click Save as... and select the format PDF.
    3. Set PDF standard to the PDF/A version you need (PDF/A-1, PDF/A-2, PDF/A-3 ...) and save.

For print jobs that should always become PDF/A automatically, create an output profile with this PDF standard and select it as profile of the automatic saving of the PDF printer. Since version 11.31.0 a printed document can also request PDF/A itself with the control code @@ca:1@@: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#62-control-codes-in-printed-documents

Existing PDF files can also be converted online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/pdf-to-pdfa

To the original question: if a PDF/A file from the current PDF24 version is still reported as invalid on one computer, please check it with https://tools.pdf24.org/en/validate-pdfa (it lists every rule that is not met). Hallo,

    Hello,

the error code 0x80080005 comes from WebView2, the Microsoft component the PDF24 Toolbox uses to display its window: WebView2 could not be started. Version 11.18.0 is quite old, so please first install the current version: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator

If the error still occurs, open the PDF24 settings (for example in PDF24 Creator under Tools > Preferences), go to the page "Components" and set WebView2 to "Installed system version". This uses the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime installed in Windows, which you can get from Microsoft if it is missing: https://developer.microsoft.com/microsoft-edge/webview2/

With the next version, PDF24 switches to the WebView2 installed in Windows automatically if the bundled one does not start.

    Hello,

there is no separate command for page numbers, but you can apply an output profile with page numbers on the command line:

    1. In PDF24 Creator, open "Tools > Output profiles", click "New", enable "Use page numbers" in the section "Page Numbers" (the pattern, e.g. {NUM} / {COUNT}, and the position can be set there) and save the profile under a name, e.g. PageNumbers.
    2. Apply this profile with the PDF24 DocTool:
    "C:\Program Files\PDF24\pdf24-DocTool.exe" -applyProfile -profile user/PageNumbers -outputFile "C:\Target\file.pdf" "C:\Source\file.pdf"

The profile name after user/ must be written exactly as in the profile manager. Description of the options: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#1114-apply-a-profile-to-input-files
