PDF24 SupportModerator
Hello,
thank you for the feedback. Here is the current state:
- Online: The tool https://tools.pdf24.org/en/sign-pdf can now sign PDF files digitally. Switch to Sign, place a visible signature on the page or tick Sign without a visible signature, and choose a certificate: the PDF24 certificate (self-signed) or your own certificate file (.p12/.pfx), which stays on your device. Optionally you can request a timestamp (TSA) and enter name, reason and location.
- PDF24 Creator: Signing with a certificate when saving as PDF is possible as described above (without a visible signature). With the next version this signature can also include a timestamp from a timestamp service and validation data (LTV), and certificates on smart cards and tokens are supported better.
The message in Adobe Acrobat that the signing time is based on the signer's computer appears when a signature has no timestamp. With a timestamp, the signing time is confirmed by the timestamp service.
2026-10-30 at 10:18 in reply to: There's no "Stroke width" UI element in the Sign PDF tool interface #64848PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you for the report. The Sign PDF tool has been redesigned in the meantime: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/sign-pdf
With Insert text you now set the text color, font size, font and bold, italic, underline or strikethrough in the small menu at the selected text. The stroke color option for text no longer exists.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
sorry for the late answer. PDF24 cannot do this at the moment. The grayscale conversion (https://tools.pdf24.org/en/convert-pdf-to-grayscale) always converts the whole page, so the pictures lose their colours as well.
If you still have the original document from which the PDF was created, the easiest way is to set the text colour to black there and create the PDF again.
Thank you for the suggestion, we will add it to our list.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
could you describe a bit more what exactly happens?
- Are the fields (Title, Author, Subject, Keywords) already empty when you load the PDF into "Edit PDF metadata", although the file has this information in another program?
- Or do you enter values, click "Change metadata", and the saved file does not contain them?
Note: the "Edit PDF metadata" tool shows the document information of the PDF. Some PDFs store title and author only in the XMP metadata; the fields in the tool then stay empty. In PDF24 Reader you can see the XMP metadata in the info panel.
Please also update to the current version of PDF24 Creator first. If the problem remains: So that we can reproduce this, please send us a file where it happens to forum@pdf24.org.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
this is possible now. In PDF24 Toolbox, open the tool "Split PDF", add your file, keep the mode "Pages per PDF" and enter the number of pages per file in "Pages / PDF:", e.g. 2. Then click "Split". With 1 (the default) you get one file per page.
The same works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/split-pdf
@ericwilliams: we answered your question about the context menu in your topic: https://help.pdf24.org/en/?p=64164
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
the function "Split page by page" is still there:
- Context menu: by default, PDF24 adds one entry "PDF24" to the context menu. It opens a window with the PDF24 file tools, and "Split page by page" is one of the buttons there. The longer PDF24 submenu with all functions directly in the context menu comes from the shell extension DLL. To get it, uninstall PDF24 Creator, install the current version again and tick "Use shell extension DLL" below "Extend shell context menu" during setup.
- PDF24 Toolbox: open "Split PDF", add the file and click "Split". The mode "Pages per PDF" with 1 page per file is preselected, so you get one file per page.
The same works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/split-pdf
About the sub-folder: could you tell us in which tool this happens and which option you did not select? Then we can check it.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
not with the current version yet, but this comes with the next version of PDF24 Creator:
- PDF24 Toolbox gets the tool "Extract PDF attachments". It saves the files embedded in PDF files under their own names, e.g. the XML file of a Factur-X invoice.
- For automation, the DocTool gets the command line function
-extractAttachments, which also processes several files or folders, for example:
pdf24-DocTool.exe -extractAttachments -silent -outputDir C:\invoices\xml invoice1.pdf invoice2.pdfThe description is already in the manual: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#11120-extract-file-attachments-from-pdf-files
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
yes, this works with a dedicated PDF24 printer that saves automatically. Then PDF24 shows no dialog, and your program only has to print to this printer.
- In the PDF24 settings open PDF Printer. Add a printer with Install a PDF printer (for example "PDF24 Revit"), or select an existing one.
- Under PDF Printer Tool choose Automatically save documents after printed.
- Under Auto Save set the Output Directory, e.g.
C:\Prints, and the Filename. In the file name you can use$fileName(the name of the print job) and date/time values such as%Y-%m-%d. The default is%Y-%m-%d %H-%M-%S $fileName. Switch off Show progress while saving if you don't want to see a progress window.
If the name of the print job that Revit sends does not contain what you need, you can set the file name and folder per document with control codes (since version 11.31.0). Enable Recognize control codes in the printed document for this printer and put a text like this on the sheet:
@@fn:Project_Sheet_A1@@ @@df:C:\Prints\@@PDF24 reads the codes after printing, removes them from the PDF and saves it as
C:\Prints\Project_Sheet_A1.pdf. This only works if Revit sends the text to the printer as real text and not as graphics - please try it with one sheet first. The PDF printers and control codes are described in the manual:
https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#6-pdf-printers
https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#62-control-codes-in-printed-documentsIf the dialog you see comes from Revit itself and not from PDF24, we cannot change that from our side.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
since your post, PDF to Word has been switched to a new converter developed by PDF24 (online and in PDF24 Creator since version 11.31.0). The result you describe, a separate text box for each line, came from the old converter.
The new converter has a "Mode" setting:
- Auto (default): simple text pages become flowing text, pages with a lot of graphics become text boxes at their original position.
- Fixed: all pages as text boxes at their original position, closest to the look of the PDF.
- Flow: all pages as flowing paragraphs without text boxes, the easiest to edit.
If you want to edit the text in LibreOffice, please try the mode "Flow": https://tools.pdf24.org/en/pdf-to-word
If the text still overlaps: so that we can reproduce this, please send us a file where it happens to forum@pdf24.org
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you for the screenshot. Most likely your A5 pages are landscape only because they are rotated (the page itself is portrait and has a rotation). The Pages per sheet tool then treats them as portrait pages and places them side by side on a sideways sheet, and after turning the sheet page 1 is at the bottom. We could reproduce this with such pages, it is a bug and we have passed it on to development.
Until then, with a current version of PDF24 Creator:
- In the PDF24 Toolbox open Pages per sheet, choose 2 pages per sheet and set Direction to RTL. Then page 1 comes first.
- If the sheet is shown sideways, turn it with Rotate PDF pages so that the text is upright.
The tool is also available online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/pages-per-sheet
If the order is still wrong, please send us the two A5 files to forum@pdf24.org, so that we can reproduce it with your files.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
at the moment the subfolder cannot be switched off:
- Command line:
pdf24-DocTool.exe -splitByPagealways writes the single pages into a new folder named after the output file.-outputDironly sets where this folder is created. There is no option to write the pages directly into the output directory. - PDF24 Toolbox, Split PDF: if you save all parts with Save, they are put into a subfolder named after the PDF. You can save single parts without a subfolder with the save icon (Save file) next to each file, but that is only practical for a few pages.
Thank you for the suggestion, we will add it to our list: an option to save all parts directly into the chosen folder.
The command line options are described in the manual: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#1117-split-pdf-files-after-each-page
Splitting is also available online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/split-pdf
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
for version 11, create a desktop shortcut with this target:
"C:\Program Files\PDF24\pdf24-DocTool.exe" -openOutputProfileManagerIt opens the output profile manager directly. If you use the 32-bit version of PDF24 Creator, the folder is
C:\Program Files (x86)\PDF24. The PDF24 Launcher uses the same command for its tile Output profiles.Other ways to open it:
- PDF24 Creator: menu Tools > Output profiles
- PDF24 Toolbox: tile Manage output profiles
For the old version 8.6.1 on Windows XP we cannot check this anymore, so we cannot tell you a command for it.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you for the detailed report and the screenshots, they show the problem clearly.
The cause: before converting, PDF24 works with a temporary copy of your file, in PDF24 Toolbox with a name like
ebb_….docx, in the online tool with a name likeupload_….docx. When the Word file is converted to PDF, the FileName field is updated with the name of this copy. Your original file is not renamed or changed. We have added this to our list: the conversion should use the original file name so that such fields stay correct.
Until then, please convert the Word file to PDF in Word first (for example by printing it to the PDF24 printer, as you already did) and then merge the PDF files, offline in the PDF24 Toolbox (Merge PDF) or online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/merge-pdf
2026-10-30 at 08:55 in reply to: Use a PDF24 profile when printing from a Windows service (SYSTEM) #64836PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
we have answered this question in your other topic: https://help.pdf24.org/en/?p=64264 - please send us the details asked for there, then we can look into it.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
since version 11.31.0, PDF24 Reader can reopen the files of the last session:
- When you start the Reader without a file, the start screen shows the button Reopen files from last session.
- The same entry is in the drop-down menu of the Open button.
The files are reopened in tabs, each at the page where you left it. If you have an older version, please update PDF24 Creator first.
Reopening the last session automatically at every start is not possible yet. Thank you for the suggestion, we will add it to our list.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
sorry that this question remained unanswered for so long.
Since version 11.19.0, PDF24 Creator includes a thumbnail handler and a preview handler for PDF files in File Explorer. Both are provided by PDF24 Reader and are used when PDF24 Reader is the default app for PDF files in Windows. If another program is the default app for PDF files, Windows does not use the PDF24 thumbnails and preview.
The file explorer in PDF24 Creator (view Preview) gets its thumbnails from Windows. So it shows PDF thumbnails exactly when Windows File Explorer shows them.
So please:
- Update PDF24 Creator to the current version.
- Set PDF24 Reader as the default app for PDF files.
If thumbnails or the preview pane still do not work after that, please tell us your PDF24 Creator version and your Windows version.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
to narrow this down, please tell us:
- Which printer do you print to with
ActiveSheet.PrintOut: the PDF24 PDF printer or a paper printer? - Do you get the same result when you print the sheet in Excel with File > Print to the same printer?
- Which version of PDF24 Creator do you use?
PDF24 prints the pages as Excel sends them. If both pages end up on one sheet, please also check the scaling in Excel's page setup: with the option to fit the sheet on one page, Excel reduces both pages to one.
2026-10-30 at 08:55 in reply to: 'Copying of contents for accessibility' restriction does not work #64829PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you for the detailed report and the screenshot, we can see it now. You are right: in the desktop version the checkbox Copying of contents for accessibility currently has no effect, the resulting file always allows copying for accessibility. The online tool sets this restriction. We have passed this on to development.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
page numbers become part of the page content, so the page numbers tool cannot remove or replace them. Editing existing content is in the works and will be released with one of the upcoming versions once it is finished.
If you still have the PDF from before numbering, the easiest way is to put the pages together there and add the page numbers once.
Otherwise you can remove the old numbers first:
- Open the PDF in https://tools.pdf24.org/en/redact-pdf and choose White as the color of the boxes.
- Drag a box over each wrong page number, only over the number. The content under the boxes is removed permanently when saving.
- Save the PDF and add the page numbers again, online with https://tools.pdf24.org/en/add-page-numbers or in the PDF24 Toolbox with Add page numbers to PDFs.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
sorry for the late reply. We do not know the cause yet and could not reproduce it so far. Another user reports a similar delay with AutoCAD here: https://help.pdf24.org/en/?p=64407
To narrow it down, please tell us:
- your PDF24 Creator version and your Windows version (e.g. Windows 11 24H2),
- your AutoCAD version,
- at which point the waiting time occurs: when selecting the PDF24 printer in the plot dialog, or after clicking OK until the PDF24 window appears,
- whether it also happens with a new, empty drawing.
Please also try it with the current version of PDF24 Creator.
On Windows 11 24H2 and later you can add a second, driverless PDF24 printer for comparison: PDF24 Settings > PDF Printer > plus button Install a PDF printer, type Windows Protected Print. Please note that the driverless printer only offers standard paper sizes and no custom sizes. If AutoCAD is fast with it, we know that the delay is related to the driver of the classic PDF24 printer. More about the two kinds of printers: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#63-classic-and-driverless-pdf-printers
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
in the print dialog of the PDF24 Reader (version 11.31.0 and later; PDF24 Creator uses the same dialog), the Paper size is preselected to match the page size of the PDF. If your PDF has A3 pages, A3 is selected, even if your plotter is set to A1.
- Under Paper size select A1 (or Printer default to use the paper set in the plotter's settings).
- If the A3 pages should fill the A1 sheet, select Fit to page under Scaling. The default "Shrink to fit (never enlarge)" only makes pages smaller, never larger.
- Check the result in the preview and print.
At the moment the dialog does not remember the paper size, so you have to select it again for each print. We will add this to our list.
If you are printing from another program or the problem is a different one, please tell us which program and which PDF24 version you use.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
how large the page is shown depends on the target of the bookmark. In the tool https://tools.pdf24.org/en/bookmark-pdf there are three kinds of targets, shown in the info line below the list when you select a bookmark ("Target: ..."):
- whole page: the PDF viewer shows the whole page in the window.
- position (set by clicking on the page): the viewer jumps to this place and keeps its current zoom.
- area (set by dragging a rectangle on the page): the viewer zooms in until this area fills the window. With a small area the page becomes very large.
To show the whole page instead, open your PDF in the tool again, select the bookmark, go to its page and click Set target to current page in the toolbar above the list. Then save the PDF.
A fixed zoom value (for example 100 %) or "fit width" cannot be chosen at the moment. Thank you for the suggestion, we will add it to our list.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you, kbpdf. In the current PDF24 Reader the entry is called Delete: right-click the highlight (without selecting text) and choose Delete at the bottom of the menu.
Online you can remove highlights with https://tools.pdf24.org/en/annotate-pdf: open the PDF, click the highlight and click the trash can Delete annotation in the small bar next to it (or press the Delete key). Then save the PDF.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you for the tip. An update for everyone who finds this topic: since version 11.31.0, PDF to Word in PDF24 Creator and in the online tool uses a new converter developed by PDF24. Pages with text become editable text in Word, simple pages as flowing text and pages with a lot of graphics as text boxes at their original position. Only pages without text, such as scans, become an image. For those, run text recognition (OCR) first and then convert the result to Word; the recognized text is taken over as editable text.
- PDF to Word: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/pdf-to-word
- OCR: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/ocr-pdf
If a page with text still comes out as an image with the current version, please send us the file to forum@pdf24.org.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
the second screenshot does not show PDF24 Reader but Foxit PDF Reader, a program from another vendor (you can see "Foxit eSign" in its menu bar). On that PC, PDF files are opened with Foxit. If you prefer it, choose Foxit PDF Reader as the default app for PDF files in the Windows settings on the first PC as well. The look of PDF24 Reader cannot be changed to that of Foxit.
By the way, version 11.29.1 is not the latest. Since version 11.31.0, PDF24 Reader shows a start screen with your recently opened files when it is started without a file. The current version is available here: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello, a short update: adding images in the online PDF editor is fixed now (online since 30.10.2026).
- A click on Image opens the file selection right away.
- The image is placed in the middle of the visible part of the current page, is selected and can be moved and resized with the corner handles.
- All common image formats can be selected, not only PNG and JPEG.
- An image dropped onto a page can be inserted directly on that page.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
notanic is right. The PDF24 Toolbox first extracts the images into a temporary folder
%TEMP%\PDF24\extractImages_.... They are only saved to a folder of your choice when you save the result at the end. The temporary folder is normally deleted when the Toolbox is closed. After a cancelled run, it can stay there, and you can simply delete it.The fix will come with the next version: PDF24 then automatically removes leftovers in
%TEMP%\PDF24that are older than two days. The tool also works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/extract-images
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you for the screenshot. This message most likely has the cause we described: Windows does not allow the driverless PDF24 printer ("PDF24 Virtual Printer") to run in the background, so every print job fails at once. This happens when background apps are blocked by a Windows setting, a group policy or a tuning tool.
You can fix it like this:
- In the Windows Settings, open Apps > Installed apps > PDF24 Virtual Printer > Advanced options and make sure the background app permission is not set to "Never". If your company controls this by group policy, your IT has to allow it for the PDF24 printer packages.
- Restart the computer afterwards, so that the hanging print job is removed.
Since you have several computers in a company, the classic printer "Legacy (PostScript driver)" from our previous answer is also a good and simple choice; it is not affected by this.
The fix will come with the next version: the driverless printer will then also print when background apps are blocked.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
we do not know the cause of this crash yet. It only happens on some computers, so we need data from an affected computer to find it.
- Please first update to the current version and check whether the crash still happens: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator
- If it still crashes, please send the following to forum@pdf24.org.
- your PDF24 version and Windows version,
- an export of the registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PDF24(in regedit: right-click the key > Export), - if Windows has logged the crash: in the Event Viewer under Windows Logs > Application, the entry "Application Error" for
pdf24-Assistant.exe(a screenshot or the text of the entry).
If you would like to narrow it down yourself: the steps in our answer above (renaming the values that start with
assistant.one by one) show whether a single setting causes the crash.PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
the option Extend Shell context menu in the settings only applies to the shell extension DLL, which can be selected as an extra option during setup. By default, the setup adds the PDF24 entry as a fixed entry in the registry, and this option does not remove it. This is on our to-do list.
To remove the entry:
- Uninstall PDF24 Creator.
- Install the current version: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator
- During setup, on the page with the additional tasks, remove the tick at Extend shell context menu.
For installation with the MSI package, the property
EXTENDSHELLCONTEXTMENU=Nodoes the same: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#3-msi-installer -
