PDF24 SupportModerator
Hello,
yes, that is possible. By default, PDF24 Reader opens every PDF as a new tab in the Reader window that is already open. To get a separate window for each file:
- In PDF24 Reader, click the ⋮ button (More) in the toolbar and choose Settings. The settings open on the Reader page.
- Remove the check mark from Open PDF files in an existing instance and click OK.
After that, every PDF you open gets its own Reader window. If you only want to move a single document out of the window, right-click its tab and choose Open in new window.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
we would like to look into this. Please let us know:
- How were the PDFs created: with the PDF24 printer, with another PDF24 tool, and which version of PDF24 Creator do you use?
- Does the same PDF open on the iPad if you send it to yourself by e-mail and open the attachment? This shows whether the file itself or the way it gets to the iPad (the connected Windows drive) is the problem.
So that we can reproduce this, please send us a file where it happens with this button:
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
with the next version of PDF24 Creator, the PDF24 Toolbox tool Add watermark can also use an image, with an adjustable size in percent of the page width. That will be the easiest way to put a logo on every page.
Until then you can try this online: create a one-page PDF that contains only your logo at the desired place (for example from a Word document with just the logo in the corner) and lay it over your pages with https://tools.pdf24.org/en/overlay-pdf
The online watermark tool https://tools.pdf24.org/en/add-watermark currently works with text only. We will add image watermarks for the online tool to our list.
2026-10-30 at 13:39 in reply to: Uninstalling PDF24 Creator: DLL files in use, Word does not start #65240PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
sorry for the late answer.
The two DLL files that could not be deleted were still in use by Windows, most likely by the Windows process that shows PDF previews in File Explorer (PDF24 includes such a preview handler). Please restart Windows. After the restart the files are no longer in use, and you can delete the folder
C:\Program Files\PDF24if it is still there. Since version 11.31.0 the uninstaller closes these PDF24 preview processes itself. If Word still does not start after the restart, please try the repair function of Microsoft Office. If that does not help, please send us a screenshot of the error message with this button:
2026-10-30 at 13:39 in reply to: PDF24 Creator: keyboard shortcut to move a document up or down #65236PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you for the explanation, and sorry for the typo in our previous answer: there is currently no keyboard shortcut for "Move document up" and "Move document down" in PDF24 Creator.
We understand the problem: the button "Merge all or selected documents" is right next to "Move document down", and one click merges all documents into one.
Thank you for the suggestion, we will add it to our list: a keyboard shortcut for moving documents, and a way to avoid or undo an accidental merge.
2026-10-30 at 13:39 in reply to: DocTool: documentation of the -upload options such as -namedFile2 #65238PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/ is the current manual, but you are right: section 11.1.11 does not yet describe all options of
-upload: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#11111-upload-a-file-via-the-http-protocolIt is on our to-do list to add them. Until then, here is the complete form:
pdf24-DocTool.exe -upload -url URL [-header key value] [-appendAppInfo] file1 [file2] ...Instead of a plain file you can also write:
-namedFile file name: uploadsfileand sendsnameas its file name.-namedFile2 file name fieldName: the same, plus the name of the form field for this file.
How the upload works:
- All files are sent in one multipart/form-data request to the URL. Without a field name, the fields are called
file0,file1, ... in the order of the files. -header key valuesets a request header and can be used several times (since version 11.29.0).-appendAppInfoadds a form fieldappInfowith information about the PDF24 installation (name, version, language and similar).- If the response contains a
Locationheader, PDF24 opens this URL in the browser. Otherwise the upload counts as failed and the beginning of the response text is shown as the error message.
In the "Upload" template of the PDF printer settings (Execute the following command after saving),
${file}is the saved PDF file,${fileName}is the name of the print job, and you replaceURLandFIELD_NAMEwith the address and the form field name your server expects.PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you, we are glad you like PDF24.
With Edit PDF you can already add new text, images, shapes and freehand drawings to a PDF, in the PDF24 Toolbox and online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/edit-pdf
Editing existing content (changing the existing text and images of a page) is in the works and will be released with one of the upcoming versions once it is finished. We will post here when it is available.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
sorry that this thread remained unanswered for so long.
The registry changes described in this thread are no longer needed. The PDF24 installer registers the preview handler for File Explorer and Outlook itself. It is used when PDF24 Reader is the default app for PDF files in Windows, which is the case on your PC according to your screenshot (file type "PDF24 Reader").
Version 11.31.0 improved the preview handler: the preview no longer blocks File Explorer while loading, and it now also works with the 32-bit version of PDF24 and in 32-bit applications such as 32-bit Office. The next version contains further fixes for the preview handler.
So please install the current version of PDF24 Creator: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator
If the preview pane still stays empty after that, please tell us your PDF24 Creator version and your Windows version, and whether this happens with every PDF file or only with some.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
sorry for the late reply. In the current version you can do this in the settings:
- Update PDF24 Creator to the current version: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator
- Open the PDF24 Settings and go to the page "Toolbox".
- In the list "Hide the following UI elements:" select all entries except
protectPdfToolandunlockPdfTooland save.
For a deployment, the same is the registry value
toolbox.hideElements(string, underHKLM\SOFTWARE\PDF24orHKCU\SOFTWARE\PDF24), see the manual: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#48-registry-settings-related-to-pdf24-toolboxTo hide everything except Protect PDF and Unlock PDF, use this value:
organizePdfTool, mergePdfTool, compressPdfTool, editPdfTool, convertToPdfTool, convertPdfToTool, splitPdfTool, rotatePdfPagesTool, removePdfPagesTool, extractPdfPagesTool, sortPdfPagesTool, imagesToPdfTool, pdfToImagesTool, extractPdfImagesTool, extractPdfAttachmentsTool, createJobApplicationTool, ocrPdfTool, webOptimizePdfTool, addWatermarkToPdfTool, addPageNumbersToPdfTool, overlayPdfTool, comparePdfTool, signPdfTool, annotatePdfTool, blackenPdfTool, cropPdfTool, flattenPdfTool, createInvoiceTool, createInvoiceVisuallyTool, createElectronicInvoiceTool, validateElectronicInvoiceTool, removePdfMetadataTool, editPdfMetadataTool, editPdfViewerPreferencesTool, nupPdfTool, changePdfPageSizeTool, repairPdfTool, validatePdfaTool, editPdfBookmarksTool, makePdfFillableTool, creatorApp,pdfReaderApp,pdfPrinterAssistantApp,compressPdfApp,ocrPdfApp,fileToolsApp,faxApp,onlinePdfToolsApp,settingsApp,outputProfilesManagerApp,sendFaxTool, captureScreenTool, twainImportToolThe list in the manual is not complete yet, some newer tools are missing there. IDs that your version does not know are simply ignored.
Protect PDF and Unlock PDF cannot be added to the Launcher; there you can only hide the existing entries. Thank you for the suggestion, we will add it to our list. As an alternative, the Toolbox can be opened directly in a tool from the command line, e.g. with a desktop shortcut to
pdf24-Toolbox.exe -verb protectorpdf24-Toolbox.exe -verb unlock(the file is in the PDF24 installation folder), see https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#911-open-the-uiBoth tools are also available online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/lock-pdf and https://tools.pdf24.org/en/unlock-pdf
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
dropping files directly into an existing document row is not possible at the moment, every dropped file becomes its own row. The quickest way is:
- Select all images in Windows Explorer and drag them into the PDF24 Creator together. Each image becomes its own row.
- Click the merge button in the toolbar above the document list (tooltip "Merge all or selected documents"). If you have selected some rows, you can choose whether all or only the selected documents are merged.
The rows are then replaced by one document with all images, in the order of the list. You can still move pages afterwards by dragging them.
Alternatively, the tool "Images to PDF" in the PDF24 Toolbox creates one PDF from several images in one step. This also works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/images-to-pdf
Thank you for the suggestion to drop files directly into a document row, we will add it to our list.
2026-10-30 at 13:39 in reply to: PDF editor: stamps and symbols like check mark, cross or "Sign here #65232PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
a short update on your question: the online editor now has a "Stamp" tool: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/edit-pdf
- "Standard" contains ready-made stamps, e.g. "Sign Here" and "Initial Here".
- "Symbols" contains a check mark, a cross, both also in a circle, a star, an arrow and a warning sign.
- Under "My stamps" you can create your own text stamps, e.g. "Account:", and reuse them.
In the desktop Toolbox ("Edit PDF") these stamps are not available yet. Thank you for the suggestion, we will add it to our list.
2026-10-30 at 13:39 in reply to: Compress PDF: change or remove the "_144dpi_25%" suffix in the file name #65226PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
this is possible since version 11.31.0. In older versions, the suffix with the dpi and quality values (e.g.
_144dpi_25%) was fixed. Now the window "PDF compression settings", which opens when you choose Compress in the PDF24 context menu or in the File Tools, has a field "Save file suffix" (default_compressed).- Update PDF24 Creator to the current version: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator
- In "PDF compression settings", enter your own suffix in the field "Save file suffix", e.g.
_25PerC, or clear the field to keep the original file name. - Tick "Remember settings", then the value is kept for the next time.
The suffix is fixed text, it does not change automatically when you change the quality.
Compressing also works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/compress-pdf
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
the changes in this window are only stored when you save them as a profile. You do not need to run the Toolbox as Administrator for this:
- Open the window (for example with the Toolbox tile Manage output profiles).
- Set PDF standard to PDF/X-3 and adjust the other settings as needed.
- At the bottom, next to Profiles:, click New, enter a name in the field Name of profile and click Save.
The new profile then appears in the Profiles: list below the built-in profiles and you can select it when saving a file. To change it later, select it, change the settings and click Save next to the list.
If you want the PDF printer to save automatically with this profile: in the PDF24 Settings on the page PDF Printer, choose Automatically save documents after printed and select the profile under Auto Save > Profile.
2026-10-30 at 13:39 in reply to: Edited or merged PDF does not appear in the target folder after saving #65224PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
sorry for the late reply. Please first update to the current version: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator
If the file still does not appear, please tell us:
- Which tool do you use, for example "Edit PDF" or "Merge PDF" in the PDF24 Toolbox, or the PDF24 Creator?
- Which folder is shown in the save dialog when you save? In the PDF24 Toolbox the save dialog opens in the folder you used last, not necessarily in the folder of the original file, so the file may be there.
- Does a message appear after saving?
So that we can reproduce this, please send us a screenshot of the save dialog with this button:
2026-10-30 at 13:39 in reply to: Capture screen with pdf24-DocTool and save to file without dialog #65221PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
this is not possible at the moment. With
-target filethe DocTool always asks for the file name with the "Save as" dialog, there is no switch for the target file yet. It is on our to-do list. What already works without a dialog is the target
clipboard, which copies the captured image to the clipboard:pdf24-DocTool.exe -mode screen -target clipboard "<screen>"All modes and targets are described in the manual: https://creator.pdf24.org/manual/11/#11117-capture-the-screen
2026-10-30 at 13:39 in reply to: Added a new font to my system but is not recognized by PDF24 Creator #65222PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you for the details. The tools Edit PDF, Annotate PDF and Sign PDF in the PDF24 Toolbox currently only list fonts that are installed as TrueType files (.ttf), from the Windows font folder and from the fonts installed for your user. Fonts installed as OpenType files (.otf), which is often the case for Source Sans Pro and Univers LT, do not appear in the font list. We will add support for .otf fonts to our list.
Until then:
- If the font is also available as a .ttf file, install that version. Then close the Toolbox and open it again, because the font list is read when the Toolbox window opens.
- Or use Edit PDF online: in the font list for text you can load your own font file with + Load custom font… (.ttf or .otf). In Chrome and Edge, Installed fonts… also offers the fonts installed on your computer: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/edit-pdf
If your font is a .ttf file and still does not appear in the list, please tell us the file name of the font and your PDF24 version.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello, a correction: Insert stamp is not available in the current version of PDF24 Reader yet, sorry. For check marks on a form without fields, please use the online tool (Stamp > Symbols > Check mark): https://tools.pdf24.org/en/fill-out-pdf
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello, a correction: Insert stamp and the Stamp tool are not available in the current version of PDF24 Reader yet, sorry for the mistake. Please use the online way: in Edit PDF choose Stamp, pick the check mark under Symbols and move it into place: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/edit-pdf
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello, a correction to our answer: the Pages per sheet tool of the PDF24 Reader is not available in the current version yet, sorry for the mistake. At the moment the orientation cannot be chosen when placing 2 pages per sheet. We have added the suggestion to our list.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello, a correction: placing a comment anywhere on a page via the right-click menu is not available in the current version of PDF24 Reader, sorry. Highlight, underline and strike out with a comment on the marking work as described. For comments and notes anywhere on the page, please use Annotate PDF: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/annotate-pdf
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you for the report, and sorry for the late reply. The second page of your file was most likely a rotated page, and the watermark did not take the page rotation into account. This has been fixed: the watermark is now placed correctly on rotated pages, online at https://tools.pdf24.org/en/add-watermark-to-pdf and in PDF24 Creator since version 11.30.0.
Your file is no longer available under the link. If the watermark is still rotated on a page, please send us the file with this button so that we can reproduce it:
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
a short update: this has been fixed since version 11.29.0. Selecting several PDFs in Windows Explorer and opening them via the context menu now opens them as tabs in one window, as long as Open PDF files in an existing instance is turned on. Please update to the current version if you have not done so yet.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
unfortunately the file in your link is no longer available, so we cannot see what happens. If the problem still exists, please first update PDF24 Creator to the current version. If it still occurs, please tell us:
- which tool you use and what exactly happens (error message, empty window, nothing happens),
- your Windows version.
Please also send us a screenshot of the problem with this button:
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
no, PDF24 Reader does not support PDFs protected with Microsoft Azure Rights Management (Microsoft Purview Information Protection). The content of such files is encrypted for your organization, and the message you see is shown instead of it by viewers that cannot open this protection.
To read these files, please use a viewer that your IT department approves for protected documents, or ask them to remove the protection for documents that do not need it.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
thank you for the report. With Force OCR, the online tool recognizes the pages again, but it adds the new text as an additional text layer. The text from your scanner stays in the file, so when you copy or search, you often still get the old text. The online tool currently has no option to remove the existing text first. We have passed this on to development.
Until then you can use PDF24 Creator on Windows: open PDF OCR in the PDF24 Toolbox, turn on Remove existing text and turn off Skip pages with text. The existing text is then removed before the recognition, so the result only contains the new text. Please note that this option removes all text of the PDF, so use it for scanned documents only, where the text is just the hidden text of the scanner.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
the current version is 11.31.1. Download it from https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator and run the setup, it installs over your existing version.
Since version 11.31.0, the PDF24 Reader pages through the document page by page when the fit setting is Width + Height or Height: Page Up / Page Down and the mouse wheel move by exactly one page, so every page sits at the same place in the window. With Width or a free zoom level, Page Up / Page Down scroll by one window height, so the page border moves, as in continuous scrolling.
Please let us know whether this solves it for you.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
a short update: Editing existing content is in the works and will be released with one of the upcoming versions once it is finished. We will post here when it is available.
Until then you can replace existing text or remove an image like this:
- Open the PDF in https://tools.pdf24.org/en/redact-pdf, choose White as the color and drag a box over the text or image. The content under the box is removed when saving, the area stays white.
- Open the saved PDF in https://tools.pdf24.org/en/edit-pdf and add the new text (or a new image) at the same place.
The rest of the page stays as it is.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
no plug-in is needed for this. The best way depends on whether your form has fillable fields:
The form has fillable fields: Open it in the PDF24 Reader (part of PDF24 Creator), click into a field and type; click a check box to tick it. The font and size come from the field, so all entries look the same. This also works online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/fill-out-pdf
The form has no fields (a flat or scanned form):
- Online, "Fill out PDF" opens such a file directly in Insert mode. Use Insert text for the text and Stamp > Symbols > Check mark for the ticks: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/fill-out-pdf
- In the PDF24 Reader, right-click where the tick should go, choose Insert stamp, then the category Symbols and Check mark.
- If you fill out the same form more often, you can make it fillable once: draw a text field over each box and a check box where a tick is needed, then fill it in as described above. In the PDF24 Toolbox this is Create fillable PDF form (since version 11.30.0, current version: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator), online: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/make-pdf-fillable
That the text tool keeps the last font and size for the next text is on our to-do list.
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
the temporary folder cannot be switched off. PDF24 needs it for its work: a print job, for example, is first written there as a file before the PDF is created, and the tools work with a copy of your file there.
PDF24 uses the temporary folder that Windows provides for your user account (usually
%TEMP%, set by the Windows variables TMP and TEMP) and creates the subfolderPDF24in it. The files are created with your own user account. If PDF24 cannot write to%TEMP%\PDF24, it automatically tries%TEMP%\PDF24_1,PDF24_2and so on. There is no PDF24 setting for a different path. Thank you for the suggestion, we will add it to our list.If the error still appears, please tell us:
- Which version of PDF24 Creator do you use? Please update to the current version first and try again: https://tools.pdf24.org/en/creator
- The exact error message (a screenshot helps) and what you did when it appeared (printing to the PDF24 printer, which tool, ...).
PDF24 SupportModeratorHello,
we have answered this in the other topic: https://help.pdf24.org/en/?p=811 In short: the folder cannot be switched off, and PDF24 uses the Windows temporary folder of your user account. With the next version, PDF24 also cleans up
%TEMP%\PDF24and deletes leftovers older than 2 days. -
